Lidocaine[lye' doe kane]:
(Class Ib, Sodium Channel Blocker):
  • Local anesthetic administered by i.v. for therapy of ventricular arrhythmias.

  • Since recovery from lidocaine block is rapid, depolarized (ischemic) or rapidly driven tissue is affected preferentially.

  • Lidocaine decreases automaticity by reducing the phase 4 slope and by increasing threshold.

  • Large doeses, rapidly administered can result in seizure.
